Want to know why I’m so dedicated to reading more in 2018? Well, I’m committed because I was inspired by Amanda to track how much time I spent on my cellphone. And it was insane… You can download the app “moment” to track yourself and I suggest you do! It’s pretty eye opening.
Anyways, as I read books this year I decided I wanted to review them here on the blog! Now, I’m not really a fiction reader and I think these books will speak to my blog audience, but if they don’t you can ignore them haha! Oh, and I know it’s February… this is the book I read this January 😛
I stumbled upon “The Go-Giver” while was watching a live stream with Mary Marantz speaking and she recommended it. She said it was a quick read.. and with newborn, easy-but-effective books were EXACTLY what I needed! I really fell in LOVE with this book quick so it was easy to finish in two days. It is a business book that helps you identify the “Five Laws of Stratospheric Success”, but it’s told in a fictional story perspective where the main character, Joe, meets people who are already well-practiced in these laws! Oh, and I did read this book on my phone because I was impatient and couldn’t wait to get it. I usually prefer a physical book though, but this worked for a shorter read!
The title of the laws (below) aren’t really secrets or spoilers, but when they are broken down in the book they really make an impact on how to make set your business apart. Here they are…
The Five Laws of Stratospheric Success
The Law of Value
The Law of Compensation
The Law of Influence
The Law of Authenticity
The Law of Receptivity
Again, just reading them here won’t give you much, but learning about them from Joe’s perspective is what really makes them worthwhile! I also want to share my favorite excerpt. Something I’ve been guilty of before is expecting something in return when I do a favor. I’ve been better about that in the past few years, but still reading this in the story helped me understand why that’s not great behavior!
“You know how people say ‘win-win’?”
Joe nodded. “Always look for the solution where you both come out ahead.”
Sam nodded. “That’s right, and it sounds great—in theory. But most of the time, what people call ‘win-win’ is really just a disguised way of keeping track. Making sure we all come out even, that nobody gets the advantage. Even-Steven. I scratched your back, so now you owe me.” He shook his head sadly. “When you base your relationships—in business or anywhere else in your life—on who owes who what, that’s not being a friend. That’s being a creditor.”“Joe remembered what he’d said last Friday on the phone: “C’mon, Carl, you owe me one! Hey, who saved your bacon on the Hodges account?”
“Sam leaned forward again. “You want to know the Third Law of Stratospheric Success…..?”*
….And then the meaning behind the third law and how to put it into action is revealed in all its glory!! I’m not giving it away though so you HAVE to check it out for yourself!!
If this sounds like a book you want to check our you can get your own copy here: The Go-Giver
